Bulgaria Refugee Fund
Syria’s civil war has displaced many families who are in fear for their lives. Not counting on other Middle Eastern countries for protection and support, these families are migrating to Europe and, in particular, Bulgaria. (Bulgaria borders Turkey which borders Syria).
Bulgaria is a poor country and does not have an abundance of funds to help. The Bulgarian government is allowing 65 Leva (about $45) a refugee per month, once processed. This is not enough to live on, and winter is coming. Additionally, Bulgaria is set up to handle 5,000 refugees, but that number is expected to exceed 11,000 by the end of 2013.
Working with our partner churches, who are beginning to assess and develop plans to serve these people, we hope and pray to make a difference. By helping meet their physical needs we pray the doors will be open to addressing their spiritual needs as well.
